Tiger Woods News and the Media World

Sometimes I wonder, is this just Tiger Woods' World and we just so happen to live in it too? I am sure any citizen living in the United States that has watched at least 3 minutes of news on any major media outlet over the past several months can recall that Tiger Woods cheated on his now estranged wife Elin Nordegren, right?

Well, if not, here it is. Back in late November of 2009, Tiger Woods was injured in a one-car accident outside of his home, near the Orlando, Florida area during the very early hours of the morning. Early reports suggested that Woods crashed into a tree, just yards from his driveway and that wife Elin had smashed a window open with a golf club to get to him.

The mainstream and regional media outlets went crazy with running this story all day long, as it soon became worldwide news that the greatest golfer in the world, Tiger Woods, had been in a car accident. My initial thoughts were, "Oh, my God! I hope Tiger is okay," but then as the story unfolded, it seemed odd that Elin would smash his window open with a golf club to get to him. I then began to think, there is more to this story, they probably got into a very serious argument and she just lost it, chased him out of the house with a golf club, and then as Woods began to drive away, Elin smashed in his car window with the golf club, most likely assisting in causing the accident involving Tiger.

Then over the next few days, more news broke out as he had been cheating on his wife Elin with multiple mistresses over the years, as one-by-one began to come forward. Shortly after everything came out into the public, Tiger gave a public apology to his wife, family, fellow golfers, and fans, as he withdrew himself from the PGA Tour and competitive golf in order to concentrate on his family and seek therapy for his "sex addiction."

So, now that Tiger Woods was out of the professional golf scene, self-admitted into a sex therapy center, and was seemingly on track to rekindle all with wife Elin, his family, fellow golfers, and fans, the media was relentless in covering everything about Tiger Woods and literally ripping his life apart. More porn stars, party girls, cocktail waitresses were coming out very vocally in the media and demanding all sorts of things from Tiger Woods, and as ridiculous as they were, the media continued to allocate hours and hours to these "opportunist" women.

I believe that society does look up to sports icons like Tiger Woods, who has inspired millions with his athleticism, charitable giving, and more. Yet, he made a mistake, actually several of them over the course of a few years. Tiger let fame, wealth, and opportunity corrupt him, as he fell prey to the many vices that surround him daily. However terrible it all was, there as been much worse acts committed by multiple celebrities, politicians, and athletes over the years, yet none of them have received anything close to the amount of attention played against Tiger Woods.

I am not suggesting that Tiger Woods should get a free pass on his wrong-doings, yet what he did is over now, and it's been nearly eight months since the story broke out, yet Tiger Woods cheating on his wife is still a main subject in the popular media today. Really guys? For instance, when Tiger Woods was recently in Ireland for a pro-am golf outing, he was hounded by the press about his "cheating" and "mistakes" he made. Tiger is there to play "golf," not answer to personal life matters with someone like, Dr. Phil. Obviously he is going to be paying for his "mistakes" financially and emotionally for the rest of his life, i.e. $100 million in a divorce settlement with Elin about to be finalized.

Maybe one of Tiger's bigger mistakes was getting married so young? It happens to millions of people worldwide, they marry early on, realize they maybe should of waited longer, and/or do stupid things like cheat on the one you supposedly love and wish to be with the rest of your life. But to be dragged through the mud for months is just getting very old to have to see and hear daily!

Not many people do take into account the many millions Tiger Woods' charity has given out over the years and all the good he does for society and children worldwide. Most people believe in second chances. I think it is worth at least sitting on the sidelines and seeing how Tiger Woods will bounce back… if at all. But, he should be given a fair shot to do so in the mean time by the media, fellow golfers, fans, and even family.

So, when Tiger is at a golf tournament, questions should be about his "golf game," and NOT about cheating on his wife, etc. When in public and away from a golf course, Tiger Woods is fair game for scrutiny and questions about his personal life, even though it's none of our business.

All I am saying is that the media should be covering Tiger Woods golf news, since that is all he is doing now. His personal life, we pretty much know all there is to know already, so, thank you mainstream media for the 24/7 coverage to date that Tiger cheated on his wife, he may have a love child with porn star, or another alleged mistress (opportunist) claims relationship with him, and so much more.

Daniel Radcliffe: I'm Not Gay, Get Over It!

Just because you support gay equality doesn't mean you are necessarily gay - a highly complex concept that apparently seems to confound and amaze many people. Harry Potter heartthrob Danielle Radcliffe has once again had to ‘deny' persistent internet rumours that he prefers guys to girls. When asked about it in an interview with MTV this week the young star said: "If people want to say that, they can. I'm not. I'm straight." "My favourite thing I saw was a guy on the internet who said, ‘Of course he's gay – he's got a gay face,' which I thought was kind of an odd thing to say anyway" he laughed. And the reason why? The 20yo has proved himself to be one of that ultra rare commodity: straight men who actively support gay equality. Part and parcel of this is sometimes being on the receiving end of homophobia himself. Rather than let it get him down it inspires Radcliffe to take action. After making a large donation to the Trevor Project, a suicide and crisis prevention helpline for LGBT people, he has now agreed to film an advert against homophobia. Last year Radcliffe appeared on the cover of gay glossy "Attitude" and says he has always been outspoken when it comes to gay rights. "I grew up knowing a lot of gay men, and it was never something that I even thought twice about—that some men were gay and some weren't," he recently explained to reporters in New York. "And then I went to school and for the first time I came across homophobia. I had never encountered it before. It shocked me. "I have always hated anybody who is not tolerant of gay men or lesbians or bisexuals," he said. "Now I am in the very fortunate position where I can actually help or do something about it."

Michael Vick is Done

It is official; Michael Vick is done with the rest of the NFL season. After deferring to his attorneys, the NFL quarterback has decided to accept a plea deal regarding the dog fighting operation. Vick will be spending at least ten months in jail for his actions. It was fairly obvious that Vick was headed to prison after a significant amount of incriminating evidence was found against him. The defense attorney (Lawrence Woodward) for Michael Vick stated, “Mike's accepting full responsibility. He's going to do everything he can personally and professionally to make this situation right.” Another one of Michael’s lawyers (Billy Martin) went on to say, “After consulting with his family over the weekend, Michael Vick asks that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with federal prosecutors regarding the charges pending against him. Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his action and the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter.” The Atlanta Falcons invested $ 130 million in Michael Vick, but it has come to no avail. Fortunately, the Falcons will be able to reclaim at least $ 22 million of that $ 130 million contract. To make matters worse, Vick will not be able to play in the NFL until the 2010 football season. More likely than not, the pro bowl quarterback will be waived from the Atlanta Falcons after serving time in jail. Ticket sales will drastically plummet because Michael Vick was the box office attraction; moreover, he was the guy who filled the Georgia Dome with fans.The Michael Vick fiasco is like watching an episode of Cops. In virtually every episode of Cops, the criminal always denies that the drugs in the truck are his/hers. Furthermore, the criminals shrugs their shoulders and says “I don’t know how those drugs got there” or “those drugs aren’t mine” or “I was set up.” In reality, the criminals always know how the drugs got there because they put them there. Similarly, Michael Vick is doing the same thing. The only difference is instead of drugs, Vick is using dogs. Initially, Michael denied he had anything to do with this transgression. In reality, Mr. Vick knew how the dog killing equipment was at his property because he put them there. It appears that Michael Vick will not be barking out audibles at the line of scrimmage this NFL season (get it, I came up with that one all by myself). The old saying “if you can’t do the time, then don’t do the crime” is in full effect here. For violating the NFL conduct policy, Michael Vick will be violated in prison (unless he sent to a jail with cellmates that have erectile dysfunction). With or without Michael Vick, the Atlanta Falcons are already mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Anne Hathaway is Hollywood’s New ‘it-girl’

‘IT’ is that quality possessed by some which draws all others with its magnetic force. With ‘IT’ you win all men if you are a woman – all women if you are a man. ‘IT’ can be a quality of the mind as well as a physical attraction.

That’s how English romance novelist Elinor Glyn defined the term “it-girl,” a phrase that entered the public imagination with the 1972 film It based on one of her novels and starring the original it-girl, Clara Bow.

Hollywood is perpetually on the hunt for this elusive quality, this blend of sexuality and innocence, of materialistic chutzpah and good valises, of swagger and sincerity that tend to sell tickets. As the Cameron Diazes, Drew Barrymores and Gwyneth Paltrows age out of group that includes Amy Adams, Michelle Williams, scarlet Johansson and Keira Knightlely, contenders to the crown that for years belonged to Jula Roberts, perhaps the last female movies star who everyone agrees actually guaranteed attendance in the theaters.

At the moment much of Hollywood is chattering about pretty Anne Hathaway, another dark-eyed, dark-haired beauty, who was plucked out of relative obscurity by Roberts’ own star-maker, Pretty Woman director Garry Marshall. It’s part of the type, if you look back through history.”

Indeed, although film historian Janine Basinger recoils at the thought that audiences enjoy seeing their cinematic icons suffer, she does note that a little glimpse of real vulnerability can burnish a star’s allure. “There is some thinking that it makes all the women identify with her.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever had a bad boyfriend. One the appeals for a female star is sense of vulnerability or being human, of not being greater than the rest of us, of not being detached from us because they’re more beautiful or have better clothes. Historically, we like women stars like June Allyson who seem human.

“Our stars don’t have to be perfect. They just have t be imperfect in a way we can tolerate, and that’s unpredictable and related to how we see them on-screen.”

As one studio executive noted, Hathaway is practically the only twenty something woman whom a studio would comfortably stake a romantic comedy on – and she’s still about half the price of a more established actress like Reese Witherspoon.
